Intelligent Design: Junk Science
What's all the hoopla about Intelligent Design (ID)? I had a wonderful lunch conversation with a friend today. He and I have spirited and respectful discussions on virtually every issue from Valerie Plame to Government Regulation and Eminent Domain. Today was no different. We came at this issue from what appeared, at first blush, to be opposing viewpoints. He said that "evolutionists" have been trying to replace religious faith with some sort of quasi-religion called science.

Hi cosmosis. I found your blog through viewing your comments on the conservative-republican blog, "Boots On", where I also posted a few comments. I just wanted to say that I admire your civility in debate as well as your eagerness to fully articulate your position.
I personally am lacking in both of those qualities. I usually just try to make those who take what I consider to be a silly stance look as silly to everyone else as they do to me. This is not very constructive, though it is sometimes entertaining. That being said, I'm doing nothing to enlighten anyone.
I mean, I don't think you'll ever convert guys like the authors of that blog over to your line of thinking on this issue; but I do think it's possible that you can influence those who haven't made up their minds on the subject. And in the face of such ludicrousness, voices as tempered with reason and patience as yours are the only defense.

I'm glad there are people out there who can always keep things on a civil level. But personally I like all the name calling, it's half the fun of blogging. If I had to limit my self to straight factual analysis on my blog I'd still have plenty to say but might not bother to say it nor would most people have much fun reading it. It would be a totally different story if I were a mainstream journalist but I'm not. I'm a snarky guy who gets a kick out of bitching about politics. I hope that in the process I pass along some interesting thoughts but I see my "job" as a blogger as being somewhat less restrained in my opinion than "real" journalists. That said, I like to think the insults are at least fair and sometimes even entertaining. And the ones that aren't fair are so obviously satire that no one gets too bothered.
